A Change of Mind

Nate Beran over at posted Cloudy Future over at his blog and I invite you to go and read it.

With the continual move to “Cloud Computing” in many facets of IT, there is a mindset change that is needed in order to understand how things now work. No longer is your vital service housed in a small closet in the basement, but now it is in a number of huge data centers across the country or globe and being run by an outside vendor so there are going to be unplanned outages along with other issues (ISP having issues? No work done today!) that are outside of the control of your internal IT department.

Sadly, it seems like when a person hears “try again later, there really isn’t anything I can do” they often here “I hate you and I’m not going to do anything”.

That needs to change.

New Git Site

A new website for the Git was launched last week and it looks pretty great.

Along with the new site is some new branding as well. Overall, I think everything looks really great … but why not a responsive site?

Stripe Gallery

Stripe is a seriously cool product meant to help people charge “real money” for stuff online and they have just announced their Stripe Gallery which showcases how people are using the service.

Go ahead and take a look. I like seeing how many people are using the service to charge for different products and services, not just web applications.

Announcing the New Ulm Wiki Project

I am pretty happy to announce the start of the New Ulm Wiki Project.

At last night’s NUGeeks meeting I discussed getting something going with this because I had been thinking about it for a while. We are running the latest LocalWiki beta on my own virtual server and now I am looking for people who are willing to help with the project.

It is no big secret that I love New Ulm and I love what the city has to offer and I hope that through this project we will be able to catalog what is here for both the people of New Ulm (and the surrounding areas) as well as those who might be coming to visit or are just interested in the area.

If you want to help out, please email me and let me know. Otherwise, it IS a wiki, to please feel free to submit changes and edits to the site directly.
