What I hope to see better support for in the baseline WordPress is support for post formats. I’m not really worried about the themes, but some better support in the admin interface for metadata (and standardized support for the common formats).
Maybe in 4?

Have you submitted your feature request yet?
First I need to play around with the current implementation to see how it would be best to request it.
Want to do my homework first.
